Hi, I’ve been having this problem for a while now and I just can’t seem to figure it out. Cnn videos won’t play in FF 16.0.2 or Chrome but they will in IE. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling FF, as well as clearing all cookies, even my Flash history. I’ve started FF in safe mode, but that doesn’t work either. I’ve ran SpyBot, Malwarebytes and Norton to clear out anything that might be causing this. I also have the current version of Flash installed. Videos on other sites, such as Youtube, work just fine. I’ve googled this and I can’t seem to find an answer. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also you may have to disable “protected mode” in Flash.. See >

I’ve tried that, no good. I also went through the link and nothing seems to work.

I tried them all, creating a new profile, in windows and FF. Something kinda worked, the commercial will now play but once it’s done the rest of the video won’t load. So we’re getting closer. Any other suggestions?

Just a thought… are you within the continental US or not?
If it has “toolbar” in the name, it’s crap.

OK, just trying to rule out the possibility of country-restricted content. The fact that the problem happens on both Firefox and Chrome also generally rules out any specific settings within Firefox causing it.
There’s a chance that either Flash or Firefox’s plugin-container.exe might be blocked in your Firewall or AntiVirus software. Can you check your Firewall or AV settings?
Also, just in case, could you give us a link to a specific video you are definitely having issues with? Just want to make sure it isn’t a few actually dead links and you are just having bad luck!

Since IE works this likely is Not the fix but try it & keep this for future Uh-Oh’s: For me it’s almost always getting Hosts to “take a break”; Above is my Win 7 site for Hosts which one can Re-Name — Hosts.old — temporarily – and – Re-Name it when your video site is closed out. Then Re-open the site and see if it works. Delete .old when finishedw/ video viewing.
If it works the MVPS.org group has a neat Batch file that Turns Hosts On/Off by Dbl-Clking a Desktop Shtcut you make: (ie) Dnload Batch File/ place in Windows Folder/ Rt Clk batch: Send Shtcut to Desktop/ Rt Clk Shtcut/ Properties/ Advanced/ Run as Administrator.

With target site Closed Dbl Clk Shtcut and Red Pop-up should appear re: Hosts Re-Named/Off — Open the target site and try video —- Dbl-Clk again nets Blue Pop-up/Hosts protection Back On.

Well, I’ve got the same problem, except that IT’S NOT BROKEN IN CHROME. I can’t play CNN videos in Firefox (v21), and haven’t been able to for a long time. They play just fine with both Chrome and IE. I’ve googled this to death, following all kinds of configuration guidelines, turning on/off safe mode, turning on/off add ons, checking prefs.js, checking for latest versions, etc., etc., ad nauseum. All the standard tech support general suggestions when something looks broken, but probably isn’t really broken. I’ve been doing this sort of thing for 30 years now, not a noob. I am convinced there is a bug somewhere here, and Mozilla and CNN ought to get their heads together and figure out a real fix, and then they should publish it so people know instead of relying upon a bunch of very well meaning and very helpful websters who have lots of suggestions, but don’t really know what’s broken to try and help people. It’s simply too fragile to have been breaking for as many years and as frequently as this seems to be breaking.

Well whatever is broken is still broken. I can play video’s from anywhere, except CNN. Just get that “your video will begin momentarily” message, which really should be your video will NEVER begin. Most annoying, have the latest version of flash, everything works everywhere else but CNN.
